decoration...

Our general decorating service enabling you to achieve your interior designers colour schemes and finishes, using authentic paints, wallpapers and crafts.

The emphasis, is decorating in a preventative protective manner, thus reducing extensive remedial repairs prior to decorating. Areas commonly affected by water and direct sunlight require a regular decorating programme. In commercial properties, decoration of high traffic areas such as corridors, staircases and frequently used access points need particular consideration.

conservation...

A specialist area of decoration beyond the capability of the average decorator and decorating firms, enlisting the use of traditional decorative materials casein, lime, and true linseed paints with techniques incorporating gilding, stencilling, murals, Trompe l'oeil , marbling and wood graining. Preserving existing exposed surfaces may require sympathetic conservation through cleaning not obliteration with new paints, protective covering of historically unique surfaces prior to new decoration by skilled craftsmanship incorporating painstaking care befitting our building heritage.

restoration...

This tends to be when a decorating programme as not been adhered to through neglect and allowed to fall into disrepair, damaged by water ingress or fire. We work along side other trades on large projects, or alternatively, follow-on after extensive repairs have been completed prior to decoration. In historic building's, we look to preserve existing finishes that are in situ and reinstate in a sympathetic manner back to the original colour scheme and finishes using authentic materials.

conversions...

Can range from old industrial mills being re-developed to modern urban living complexes, through to derelict or unused barns being converted into residential living properties. Our aim here is to work closely with the client in achieving their vision while incorporating materials that are in harmony with the buildings fabric.

It as been a pleasure to have worked with the developer, Richard Binks of Binks Vertical, on the new and vibrant Ledgard Bridge Mill development. It is with some joy to see that Richards vision in the early planning and design of this project choose not to take the easier option of hiding the integral character of the building, but incorporated the features of this industrial textile working mill, thus enhancing the finished appeal of the apartments. Thus demonstrating, that the old historical can mix with the new 21st Century technologies in harmony, while keeping the clean line minimal styling associated with modern urban living.

bespoke new builds...

Obtaining a high class decorative finish, is as important as laying the first brick. We pride ourselves on delivering an excellent rather than the average finish, employing bespoke paints and wallcoverings. Our cliental build to an ethos of 'quality rather than quantity'.

wood polishing / laquering...

A high quality finish in the main reserved for crafted joinery work from furniture, doors, skirting and flooring derived from highly valued timber such as oak, mahogany, ash and walnut. A number of traditional and modern treatments are deployed from the preparation of existing pieces by way of stripping and bleaching to colouration in the form of liming/staining to be finished by the desired polish or lacquer effect.

project management...

One such project was working on the restoration of Temple Newsam on behalf of P&A Decorators, for the main contractor William Birch & Sons LTD, whom worked directly for the customer. This involved co-ordinating the work schedule between different trades in a given area due to the health & safety issues, relating to the problem of lead being present in the original paint, it's removal and re-application. Working within the chain of command in any disagreements, such as the instance in which, the architect & clerk of works, along with the customer had a disagreement on the obtainable finish of window WG13. The stripping of which, resulted in a copper weather proofing being exposed and the reason for the basis of the dispute. Negotiating an achievable solution to this and other instances, which arose through the course of the project.
